Dzevad Poturak seriously injured, FFC07 in Sarajevo postponed!

The news that shocked the regional martial arts public has finally been confirmed today. Dzevad Poturak is seriously injured and he will definitely not be able to fight on October 4 in Sarajevo, in what was supposed to be his farewell match. This automatically means that the entire FFC event moves to another, still unknown date which will depend on the speed of Poturak's recovery.

Talking to Fight Site, the FFC's man in charge Orsat Zovko stated:

"Poturak received another therapy shot last night and we let him sleep it off to see how his shoulder would react. We have got a response in consultation with the doctor today that not only he is not ready to fight on October 4, but he needs to take the situation seriously and undergo a therapy for the next four to six weeks, with plenty of rest during that time. We hope this will help his injury fully heal and that we will be able to announce the new date for his farewell event as soon as possible. The FFC in Sarajevo stays FFC07, and we will skip that one, proceeding according to the set schedule. The next event, FFC08, will be held in Zagreb."

Zovko is not hiding his frustration and disappointment after cancelling first Pula and now Sarajevo.

"Of course, it feels uncomfortable, but there is a big difference between these two events. We simply cancelled Pula, while Sarajevo is merely rescheduled. Pula was too much of a risk for us, while Sarajevo is a completely different story. The atmosphere surrounding the event is great, everything has been prepared, and that is an event we will be very happy to do as soon as Poturak recover."

However, an exact date is still not on the horizon…

"For now, we are looking at the available dates in December, but before announcing anything, we need to get a confirmation from Dzevad and his doctor that the injury has completely healed up."

This doesn't mean that all of the bouts scheduled for Sarajevo will stay as planned. Some of those fights need to be held earlier, according to Zovko.

"There are some matchups we just need to move over to Zagreb, and when the Sarajevo date is set, we will add some other fights there. Say, Francisco "Croata" Barrio. The man traveled from Argentina long before the event to prepare, and his fight will be squeezed into the Arena. It's the same with Dzakic vs Vrbinc, which had been already moved from Pula to Sarajevo. It's about time for those guys to do this fight, and it's one that fans are impatient to see. I know that the fighters have worked hard, but let me repeat: Sarajevo isn't cancelled, just postponed until Dzevad recovers. People must understand that this whole event is built around him, that many sponsors are attached to him and, finally, it's his farewell event, in front of his hometown crowd, and this is something we cannot deny him," the FFC owner concluded.
