Las Vegas, NV, (November 14, 2018) – If the Fight Dome at Caesars Entertainment’s Rio Las Vegas is swaying back and forth on Friday night, November 16th, it will not be due to an earthquake. The frequent trembling will be caused by two massive MMA heavyweights squaring off in the Co-Main Event of “FFC 34.”
DJ “Da Protege” Linderman (21-14-0) Yreka, CA will clash heads with Tony “Hulk” Johnson (11-4-1) Nashville, TN in what is expected to be a crowd-pleasing heavyweight brawl that could easily last the full three rounds.
Think about this for a second… More than 515 lbs. (combined) will be inside the Fight Dome Las Vegas Ring on Friday night when Linderman battles Johnson. Not to mention, both fighters stand close to 6′ 2” tall. These are large specimens, indeed.
The good news for fans is that both fighters can stand and trade shots with the best of them, and they can also go to the ground and use their solid wrestling skills. In other words, if this fight is a stand-up war, or if goes to the ground and pound, it will make for one entertaining bout that is sure to deliver explosive power and plenty of fireworks.
Linderman will be hungry for this fight, in more ways than one, due to the fact that he is (2-3) in his last five fights, and coming off two consecutive losses overseas. One by knockout, the other by unanimous decision. He boasts an impressive fight resume, having defeated Bellator veteran Carl Seumantafa (who fought in FFC 32) and having lost to UFC veteran, Anthony “Rumble” Johnson.
“All this experience I have helps fight by fight, and round by round, because I can see everything before it happens,” said Linderman. “My heart wins fights for me, it’s all about the heart that I have, I do it for my daughters and Friday night, I’m gonna move around, stay on my feet, get him in the corners and TKO him One of us is going down and it’s not, it’s Tony
As for Johnson, he is (2-2-1) in his last five fights, with the past two ending by draw and a loss by TKO. Much like Linderman, Johnson’s portfolio is also quite impressive, having defeated former UFC veteran Tim Sylvia by TKO, and having lost to current 2-Time UFC Champion, Daniel Cormier.
“I’m always so confident because I’ve trained with the best, Cain Velasquez, Daniel Cormier, etc. and I’ve seen so many looks and scenarios so I know I can hang with anyone,” said Johnson. “I left nothing to chance for his fight, I trained very hard and you’re going to see a knockout on November 16th.”
Six of Johnson’s eleven wins have come by knockout and the other five were all decisions. Oddly enough, it’s almost the same exact scenario for Linderman who also has 6 knockout wins, and a total of six submissions.
Both fighters share a similar opponent, Vitaly Minakov, who ended up defeating Johnson and Linderman by knockout.
FFC CEO/Founder, Orsat Zovko, weighs in on this November 16th matchup.
“Linderman is a very tough and gritty fighter and Johnson is a heavy-handed fighter with an endless gas tank ,” said Zovko. “These guys have knockout power but most importantly both guys can control the ground as well, which makes this a very intriguing matchup between two savvy heavyweight vets.”
With similar styles, an enormous amount of heart, and an endless supply of stamina… One thing is for sure, Fight Dome will be ‘rocking’ for “FFC 34” when Linderman and Johnson enter the ring Friday evening, November 16th. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. (PST) and the first fight is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
