Jason Wilnis: ’Match with Keclik will be a real war’

Final Fight Championship will start its new season September 18 in Linz, while Jason Wilnis and David Keclik are to headline the kickboxing part of the event.

Austria’s David Keclik will hereby end his successful career and retire after a match in front of his hometown audience. His opponent will be a member of Glory and one of the best world’s middleweight division kickboxers.
Wilnis already fought for the FFC a couple of times, while he had his last FFC match in Zadar when he KO’ed Zoran Majkic. He also talked to Slovenia’s Fight Madness.

Wilnis started with kickboxing when he was 17.

“I used to train soccer, but eventually slowly began to lose interest. My brother Jahfarr trained kickboxing for fun and it somehow drew my interest. I went with my brother to one training session and I remained in the sport ever since”, said Jason Wilnis to Fight Madness.

“After only three months of training I had my first match. I was 17 and I fought a guy who was 33. I was full of self-confidence and I accepted the match. After the match my coach told me I fought like I’ve already had experience. It was a special feeling. Everybody watched the match. My mother, father, brother and all my friends were there. It is a nice memory.”

Many think K1 is not sport but violence. What is your message to those who share that belief?

“They should put on the gloves and start training. They would soon realized what kind of sport it’s like.”

Why do they nicknamed you Tyson?

“Guys from my gym and my coach always called me Tyson and told me I punch like him.“

At FFC 19 in Linz you will fight Austria’s own David Keclik. What can we expect from the fight?

“It is going to be his farewell fight and I believe he will be tough from the very beginning. But I will be tough to. It will be a real war.”
