Exclusive: Zelg against Rodriguez at FFC in Pula!

The FFC's summer break will be a bit shorter than anticipated, to the delight of many fans of this ambitious martial arts organization. What was at first mere speculation, followed by a cautious announcement from the FFC management, has turned out to be true – the FFC will, before the already scheduled event in Sarajevo on October 4, hold another event in the city of Pula, Croatia. And it looks like it will be spectacular.

The FFC management told Fight Site that the event on September 20 in the magnificent ancient Roman Arena in Pula will be headlined by one of the best Croatian MMA fighters, Zelg Galesic, and former UFC fighter Ricco Rodriguez. This should be a catch-weight, under-95 kg contest. Considering that Sarajevo has already been labeled as FFC07, the number 7 will now go to Pula, while FFC with Dzevad Poturak and Stefan Leko in the title roles will become the eighth event of the best regional martial arts promotion.

The co-main event will once again feature arguably the best Croatian kickboxing heavyweight Igor Jurkovic, and his opponent, according to Fight Site’s info, should be Turkey’s Ali Cenik. A match that should attract plenty of interest and will be part of the FFC07 main card is the long awaited clash between two of the best regional kickboxing fighters in the under-80 kg weight class: Croatian Emil Zoraj and Slovenian Miran Fabjan will finally meet on the opposite sides of the ring. As a reminder, this fight was scheduled as a super fight in the K-1 WGP Final in Zagreb, but Fabjan got injured and Zoraj was matched up with another, last-minute opponent. Undoubtedly , this amazing matchup should give us the answer to the question: who is really the best regional fighter in this weight class?

Pula will also be a major challenge for Mladen Kujundzic, a fighter residing in Rijeka, Croatia. “Dynamite” has recorded three wins in three fights at Final Fight events, but Sergei Lascenko is undeniably a tough nut to crack and this is a match that could give an extra dimension to Mladen’s career. The Ukrainian, until two year ago praised as one of the best kickboxing fighters in the world, has two discomforting defeats in the FFC (Ghita, Brestovac), so he will have extra motivation to show himself to the crowd in Pula in the best light possible.

The Arena will also be the place of debut for one of the best regional welterweights – Serbia’s Dusan Dzakic. A somewhat controversial, but undeniably very good fighter will face Slovenia’s Primoz Vrbinc. Primoz is said to be the best Slovenian fighter in the under-77 kg weight class, and we can certainly look forward to a fierce contest in Pula.

The organizer has promised to reveal the rest of the card over the next several days, and Fight Site brings you an exclusive view of the event’s official poster.
