Stanic after his heavy knockout: No consequences at all, not even a concussion

In a rather difficult and interesting fight against Igor Emkic at FFC 5 held last week in Osijek, Ivan Stanic ended up brutally knocked out in the third round.

It took several minutes for the Opatija-based fighter to regain consciousness, and in the end he managed to get out of the ring on his own two feet, to the crowd's applause.

"First I have to congratulate Igor Emkic on his win and to his corner on a well prepared tactic. I went into the fight a bit too relaxed and Igor took advantage of this. Since I was counted twice in the first round, my coach and I knew I couldn't win on points anymore, and had to look for a stoppage win. The second round, I was ahead by a small margin, but I knew that wasn't enough," Stanic said.

"I went into the last round openly looking for a KO chance, but Igor defended well, he punched me hard on the chin from a counter and that was the end of the fight. Luckily, the blow hasn't left any lasting consequences, after additional examinations even a slight concussion was ruled out. My only real problem is a foot injury," the double Muay Thai champion revealed.

"I'll use this opportunity to ask Emkic to give me a chance for a rematch, and I'm sure the fight would be a big draw for the crowd. We both left gave everything in this fight," Ivan added at the end of his interview with Fight Site.
